Why is DCUM so SLOW?

Anonymous
I've noticed that the boards have been considerably slower in the last week or two, with pages taking forever to load. Internet is otherwise speedy, so I don't think it is my machine or ISP. Anyone else experiencing the same?

Yes, I've noticed it too. I often have to close out the site and reload.

I've noticed the same thing.

I've been trying to diagnose this issue for a few weeks. Sometimes it seems related to the database and sometimes not. I keep tweaking database settings, but the problem always returns. The bottom line seems to simply be the number of users we have these days. Have you noticed how many people are using the forums when it gets slow? We will probably have to throw more hardware at it.

I thought it was just me. I've had it freeze up multiple times on replies and they end up not going through.

A spinoff question: The slow speed sometimes causes my computer to double-post, and I suspect that the same thing is happening to others as well--I feel like I'm seeing lots of double posts lately. Should we bother reporting these to you, or are they not worth the time they take to delete?

I have noticed that when it is slow taking me into a forum, there is a message in the bottom left of my screen indicating that it is trying do do something involving doubleclick.

You are welcome to report a double post, but don't feel that you have to. I will delete it if you report it, however.

The information about DoubleClick is very useful. Thanks much for that. I would love to be able to blame the slowness on someone else

Can I get feedback on something? It looks to me like the general slowness I was experiencing last week has gone away (I'd like to say I fixed it, but I am not sure I did). However, what I now see are total and complete freezes that last for a second or two. Then, everything goes back to normal. Is this consistent with other's experiences?

Maybe? I am getting a few complete freezes, but they happen just after I hit "post." I only ever noticed the slowness problem when I was posting, so it doesn't seem like a huge difference to me.

This is true for me--only slow when I'm posting. I've never thought there was slowness when I click on a topic to read a thread.
