Infertility Support and Discussion
| I just underwent a D&C after being diagnosed with a blighted ovum at 12 weeks gestation. Anyone has any experience they could share about conception after D&C for this condition? Thank you. |

One of my best friends and I both had blighted ovums and miscarried in November. She had conceived naturally and had a D&C. I had conceived via IVF and had a natural miscarriage. Both of us conceived again - February for me and March for my friend. Don't expect your period to come on time for your next cycle. I remember it took quite awhile for my HCG levels to drop.
Best of luck to you! |
| 14:20 post -- do you remember when your cycle returned? and how long it took for the HCG to exit your sytem? Also -- post D&C how much bleeding did you have in terms of duration and quantity? thanks so much. |

14:20 poster here. It took 3 to 4 weeks for my HCG to drop down after the miscarriage itself which was a week after they diagnosed the blighted ovum. I got a short period about a week after my HCG was below 5. I didn't have a D&C, but my bleeding last probably close to 2 weeks? I remember it being a long time. After my period in January they started me on BCP which is the 1st step in an IVF cycle and I did get pregnant on that cycle.
For me they diagnosed the blighted ovum at 7.5 weeks and I had the miscarriage at 8.5 weeks, so it will probably take yours a bit longer to return. |
| I didn't have a D&C, but miscarried at 8 weeks, 4 days in late December. Baby had a heartbeat at 6 weeks, 4 days, so passed somewhere in between. I didn't have HCG checks after the miscarriage, but got my period about 30 days after the miscarriage, so it was gone by then. I had a longer cycle the next cycle; ovulated late. By the next cycle, was about back to normal. And then got pregnant on the third (I was told to wait 3). So I was pregnant in March. I'm so sorry for your loss. |
I remember it taking a long time for HCG levels to drop-like 6 weeks, but then again, I had a D&C at 11 weeks. I got pregnant shortly after my cycle returned, but that ended in a chemical pregnancy. I waited for a couple months, and conceived my son 5 months later. I was 42. |
| OP here- Thank you all for responding. Your stories are very encouraging in a time like this. |
| I'm sorry for your loss. I also suffered from a blighted ovum. I believe it is just like any other miscarriage in terms of how your body recovers. This was my second miscarriage and my second D&C. It was in December.. and I was pregnant again in April. (This was a couple years ago. I now have a healthy 6-month old.) |
| I went for my 8 weeks ultrasound the end of July and found out I had a blighted ovum. I passed it naturally the first of August and had another regular period in September. I just took two pregnancy tests...........both came out positive (appr. 5 weeks pregnant). Even though I read that a blighted ovum usually only happens once.............I still wonder in the back of my head if it will happen again. My doctor scheduled an ultrasound for 6 weeks this time, and it couldn't get here soon enough. I just have to trust that God knows the future of my baby and has it in control. |
