I'm looking for a nice place to take friends coming to visit but can't afford to treat everyone for $25-$30 entrees. Looking for a nice "new" American, Italian or Seafood restaurant, nice low-lit setting but not pretentious, in DC or Bethesda.
For example, Founding Farmers would be a good option but they're booked. Please help with suggestions! |

Central
Filomena Bibiana Zaytinya Brasserie Beck Oya |
Posto in Logan Circle? It's not "cheap" but on par with Founding Farmers.
PP here -- Central is an even better choice, and I also agree with Bibiana.
Toscana near Union Station
Dinos in Cleveland Park? They have a few more expensive items, but most entrees are <$20, and they have meal deals: $39 for 3 courses and a glass of wine.
Grapeseed in Bethesda
Love Bibiana.
I would second Dino, or Palena Cafe might be a good option too. I think Central and maybe some of the others are a little pricier than what OP requested.
Thanks all!! Great suggestions.
People like American Tap Room in Bethesda although I haven't been. Cafe Deluxe is good, although not lowly lit. What about Clydes in Friendship Heights? It's a nice space and the food is always surprisingly good. The 7th street one is nice too. Georgetown is a little less deluxe.

I like to take out of town guests to Old Ebbitt. Classic American food, Great raw bar, great service and not that expensive. After take them to the top of the W hotel (used to be Washington Hotel) for a night cap and best view of DC.

How about Al Tiramisu?
We loved Birch and Barley.
