MDIPA, in general and particularly overseas... thinking of switching for IVF

Anonymous
Ive posted on the TTC forum as I am contemplating MDIPA (vs. Aetna) for IVF. (I did one succesful round of IVF in 2010 which resulted in a baby this spring; I'm missing one tube so I have a diagnosis of tubal factor).

My question is: since we also live overseas, has anyone used MDIPA while living overseas? Given that medical care costs are low in our country, we anticipate mostly paying out of pocket and using MDIPA for IVF in the States as well as other medical appts. in DC area.

SO:
1) Anyone use MDIPA for IVF, and what did you think?
2) How is MDIPA in general?
3) How is MDIPA overseas?

THanks!!!!

MD IPA is a local HMO open only to MD, DC, and most VA residents. There is no coverage for non-emergency care provided outside this area.

Thanks,,, but they do provide emergency care for outside the States/ I am not seeing it in their benefits brochure
And, how common is it to be a preferered provider? And why are all the links I am finding to theri webiste from 2008?

If you want to see their Federal coverage, you have to go to the OPM site. The PP is right - MDIPA does not provide benefits (other than emergency care) outside of the DC area.

i think you can get to their most current website to search which doctors are in network by searching for MAMSI MDIPA doc find.

I am not sure you would even be allowed to select that plan without having an eligible (local) residence, even if you wanted to use them only for in-US fertility care.

I have not had trouble finding specialists on their network, the issue is usually finding a PCP who is taking new patients (and you need referrals from that PCP if you want to see a specialist).
