MDIPA- help!

Anonymous
I had a baby (via IVF) in May 2011 after trying for a year following an ectopic pregnancy and one tube removed. I'm considering signing up for MDIPA for IVF coverage (considering Aetna, too, if anyone has any suggestions... or other federal plans... yes, I realize I am behind!)

The "you and your spouse have a history of infertility of at least 2 years duration" is confusing to me... would I qualify? Would I needto document another year of trying in addition to the year I tried before IVF that led to my baby? Or does having a baby reset the clock, even though I had a diagnosis of tubal factor infertility before IVF that led to my baby?

I think the best thing to do is to call your RE's financial office since they have experience working with all the insurances, but I'm pretty sure you would not need to wait 2 years again, since you still have tubal factor IF. Also, the MDIPA coverage says "2 years OR your infertility is due to tubal factors, male factor, etc."

call the RE's office but no, in our situation MDIPA was very lax when we went to do IVF for child #2. The approved us right away because we had needed IVF for child #1 for one of their approved conditions (in our case male factor).

I have severe endo, and went back to start IVF less than a year after IVF baby #1 was born. MDIPA approved me right away.

This is really helpful, thanks.

So I guess this means I wouldn't have to have a current HSG, etc.? I had all the diagnostic stuff under BCBS in 2009/2010... there wasn't much to diagnose, except that I don't have a tube (which we knew already)... but I would hate to have to do this again!

I plan on doing IVF at Shady Grove.

This board is AWESOME. Thank you for the help!

Is MDIPA also known as something else? I am looking under the plans for both HMOs and PPOs for FEHB and don't see it listed under preminums...
