Anyone have experience with moving to Arlington and getting into the Extended Day program? Just wondering how long it might take....
Thanks! |
| Depends on the school, but if you call the Extended Day office, they can tell you. Or you could go in and look at it -- it's posted on the wall. |
| I thought it was guaranteed in Arlington. Is that not correct? Folklore? |
| If you sign up in the summer, before the deadline (this year it was Aug 1st) then you are guaranteed a slot. I'm not sure how it works if you are trying to join partway into the year. It may vary by school and by the ratio of staff to kids (I.e., if they are near or at the maximum, so that letting another child in would mean they would have to hire another staff member, then I suppose you might not be able to get in mid-year). |
| Just to confirm another poster, I think it's guaranteed if you make the due date; last year that's what they told me. I would call them to verify nothing has changed for this coming year, though. |
| 16:36 here -- yes, if you sign up in time, you are guaranteed a spot. I thought the OP was asking how long the wait would be for someone moving to the Arlington now. |
| Ugh. Moving to Arlington. Not "the Arlington" -- I am not from Cali. |
OP here, this is very helpful info. Thanks! |

It is also possible to get in mid-year, depending on the school. If your school still has space available at the facility (there is a maximum number of kids each can have that varies depending on the size of the space in each school facility) they can accept kids at any time. At times, they may have "space" but need to hire more staff to ensure the ratio so there might be a delay but I've heard it could be just a couple weeks in that scenario. We did this when I went back to work suddenly in November a couple years ago and when I signed up my daughter they told me she could actually start the very next day...
If you go to the main Extended Day office in Arlington they have a board which says which programs are full/closed and which have a wait - which either say something like "2 days" or "2 weeks". |
