I am now thinking about getting high-risk OB consultation. Does anybody know a good high risk in McLean area? Vienna, Falls church would also work.
I am a patient of dr Andersen, Davis practice, but not sure if they are high risk |
you're not that far from georgetown u. hospital..if you need high risk OB then you should also deliver where there is a level 3 nicu so you and baby will never be separated...best of luck! |
Patricia Bannon in Mclean was great.
I was over 35 and I end up having VBAC. |
would not Fairfax Inova be also equipped for high risk??? i thought that was one of a few hospitals here with level 3 (highest) NICU units....? I am delivering there, unless it is not equipped. Please let me know
Also Patricia Bannon is covered by my insurance but she is not listed as high-pregnancy but rather as just an OB... Is she really high risk? i currently go to Dr Andersen, Davis, Muasher practice, are the high risk? |
I second Dr. Bannon--she is wonderful!! |
I'd recommend Perinatal Associates. They deliver at Fairfax Inova which has a level 3 nicu. I'm actually at Fairfax now on bedrest under their care, and they are very set up for us high risk types. A couple of the drs in the practice are Dr Barbara Nies and Dr Khoury. |
OP I am now getting clarity on this issue myself. Dr. Bannon is not technically a high risk doctor although she treats many patients in this category by working with Dr. Maclaren at VHC as "issues" come up. She is definitely wonderful and my be work talking to see if this would be a great fit for you. If your medical condition is something that she feels she couldn't adaquetly monitor--she would definitely tell you since she is that wonderful of a person and would then refer you to someone she thought could handle. Hope this helps and good luck! |
I'd caution about the Bannon practice...it seems disorganized and super busy. I went Friday for a first pregnancy appt, and they weren't sure why I was there ('are you here for an annual?'). After I dropped off my urine sample, I was returned to the waiting room and after an hour I needed to pickup my son from preschool and had to leave.
There was a lot of pregger mommies come in during that wait....they seem busy. |
This is really unusual--I have never had a problem there, I would bring this up with Dr. Bannon or Dr. Armstrong--I think they would be interested to hear. |
I am with Drs Andersen et al == I had two miscarriages for very different reasons, was also being seen by Dr Muasher's husband who is an outstanding fertility doc. When I got pregnant for the third time (with no drugs or intervention I might add!) I was seen initally by Drs. Andersen etc but then they also sent me to the Perinatalogists at INOVA Fairfax (Khory's group == can't remember the other docs). I alternated basically my visits -- did the regular visits with Drs. Andersen etc but also maintained a sched at Fx INOVA (I had a cerclage done at 13 weeks so had regular sono checks to make sure my cervix wasn't shortening).
Yes, it was a TON of appointments... but I felt so comfortable knowing that if ANYTHING came up SOMEONE would catch it! Have a wonderfully healthy 14 mo DS now... thinking about a 2nd pregnancy and would not hesitate to go the same route. GOOD LUCK!! |
I am currently seeing Dr. McLaren at VHC as a consultant high-risk OB, on alternate appointments with my regular OB like a PP, and am very happy with the care I am receiving. I think most high-risk OBs only work on a consultant basis, and you will need to maintain your regular OB visits too. Ask your OB who she/he would recommend. Also, VHC may be closer to you in McLean than Fairfax, and they claim to have the most state-of-the-art NICU in the DC metro area. |
