| In many threads where posters bash ward 3, the response is generally something along the lines of "you only say that because you can't afford to live here". I'm wondering, how many people would be willing to move from their present neighborhoods in the District, MD, and VA to ward 3 if they could afford to. Full disclosure, I live in ward 3 and like it here, but I'm willing to admit that it's far from the utopia some other residents claim it to be. |
| Where's Ward 3? We're new to DC. |
| We moved out of ward 3 to takoma park, and we are much happier here. HHI 350k. |
| We did live in Ward 3. When we moved to a bigger house, we looked at houses in Ward 3 and considered staying, but ultimately, moved to CC MD because we preferred the neighborhood and felt like it was a better place for our family (in part because we have so many friends here). So my answer is that I'd live in Ward 3, but it's not my first choice. And even if my housing budget was unlimited and I could buy a mansion in Wesley Heights, I'd still prefer CCMD. |
| No. We like being able to walk to work and being near metro. If I wanted leafy, green and suburbanish and having to drive, I'll move to San Diego. |
| We've lived in the area (Falls Church) for 13 years and I still don't know exactly where Ward 3 is. I work in the District but haven't ever had much reason to visit the residential areas. |
| OP here. Actually, there are metros in ward 3 and I'm walking distance to all the stores I like. I do drive to the supermarket, though, but that's because I try to buy as much as I can in one trip so I don't have to go there 3 times a week. |

Ward 3 includes AU Park, Cleveland Park, Friendship Heights, Foxhall, Glover Park and Tenley. Did I miss anywhere?
|
| Thanks 21:09. |
| No way. Won't touch DC and the messed up political 'leadership' / schools with a 10 ft pole. I'll stay in NOVA |
| The above poster I the typical Virginia poor poster who probably works for the government. Thus the requirement for public schools. I live off of Foxhall and love it. Nice house, close to the forest. Va political leadership is pretty screwey too. So yes you can't afford it here. |
|
OP again. You're making us look bad 21:37. You're exactly the kind of ward 3 person who annoys me. Money is not the be all and end all for happiness. If it is for you, then I feel sorry for you.
FWIW, the elementary schools in ward 3 are pretty good and are probably comparable to good elementaries in NOVA. My knowledge of NOVA elementaries are limited to what I've heard from others, so I'm not in the position to make a one for one comparison. (See public school forum discussions on Mann, Janney, and Murch.) But I'll admit, I'm hard pressed to say anything nice out our politcal leaders - except that they try. |
| Nope. It is not nearly urban enough for us. |
Totally agree; I've lived in NoVa and now live in MoCo and have absolutely zero desire to ever make my home in DC!! |
| Foxhall mom here again. I'm tired of these new money Virginians that love to make fun of DC. I can afford to live here and not pinch pennies. I can afford to pay a Premium for my house and pay for private school for my 3 kids. Does most of my tax money go to poor people I never have to see? Sure. But you can't get a new highway on 66. Seriously. Most of these Virginians never go any further north than M st and quite frankly that's how I like it. Those in the know, know. |
