Gated Communities

Do gated communities exist in this area?

We see and hear about them all the time on tv and in other states, but what about the DC area?

Loudoun County has a bundle of them.

Not very common in Fairfax County, but there are a few, like Evans Farm and Maplewood in McLean. Both are small neighborhoods of expensive townhouses and single-family homes on small lots.

I live in one (not in the DC area). Love my house but HATE the GATE! It is ALWAYS malfunctioning and recently a neighbor had a chimney fire and the fire dept COULDN'T GET IN. (Obviously, it's an unmanned gate.)

Plus, the gate is left open from 8am to 5pm for workmen and deliveries -- so what's the point???

I rent, so I have no voice on the HOA. But if I did, I'd vote to remove it.

Some people travel a lot, but have expensive home furnishings. They may take comfort from the additional security.

They are not to keep outsiders out. They are to keep the assholes who live in them inside.
