I'm guessing this question about caffeine has been asked endlessly before, so sorry if that is the case. I've weened myself off of regular coffee and boy do I miss it! Way more than alcohol or sugar, etc. But does the amount of caffeine in decaf also pose a threat during the 2ww? Is it wise or just paranoid to ask this?! Thanks in advance, guys.
Probably no one is going to truly know the answer to this. Lots of women drink coffee and get pregnant while drinking it - and continue during pregnancy. For those of us that struggle while TTC, I think avoidance in general of all caffeine and coffee is just being on the safe side. So I think it is just whatever you are comfortable with. I don't think drinking a cup of decaf a day would prevent you from getting pregnant, but I personally wouldn't do it just to rule out everything.
I got DRUNK on my 2ww (on the one month DH and I took a break from trying, after a year of nothing, so we thought nothing of it), and of course that's the month I got pregnant. Easy pregnancy and DD is super healthy. So, no, I don't think decaf will hurt.

Actually in some circumstances decaf is worse than regular coffee. The process used to remove the caffeine uses some toxic chemicals so I think a small amount of regular coffee is better.

^^^Agreed. One cup of coffee per day is fine. One cup means 8oz or the "tall" size at Starbucks. (I think that is the size, I could be wrong about that)
The tall size at Starbucks is 12 oz, the grande is 16 oz. |
My doc said the same thing. ^^ 12 oz of regular coffee is better than decaf b/c of the toxins. If you want to stick with decaf though, drink Swiss Water Method decaf. (You can get it at Whole paycheck.)
I have a friend who drank tons of coffee before she even knew she was pregnant. Once she found out, her doc said two cups of coffee per day were fine. Basically, if you're not going to have trouble conceiving (like 99% of women) live your life like you normally do until you gt a positive pregnancy test.
There have been several studies on caffeine and all have shown that caffeine can affect fertility. How much caffeine is okay is highly debated. I personally wouldn't take the risk.
