Republicans are Backing Out of the Budget Deal

U.S. Republicans will try to spare defense programs by reconfiguring the $1.2 trillion in spending cuts that are to be triggered starting in 2013 by the collapse of a congressional deficit-cutting committee, a leading Republican senator said Sunday.
"I think there's a broad consensus that too much of the cuts are weighted on our defense's capabilities and would really, really cut in deeply into our ability to defend this nation," said Senator Pat Toomey, a member of the "super committee" that failed last week to reach a deal to reduce the huge U.S. debt.

WTF? Why did they sign a deal they could never live with? I think we ought to take note that the GOP is the party who, when their backs are to the wall, can't take the tough medicine to fix our budget dilemma. The hypocrisy is incredible. Meanwhile, the Dems are willing to move forward.

Face it, the GOP is not for fiscal austerity. The GOP is not for limited government. The GOP is for the programs they care about, and nothing more.

Not sure who you are referring to as poor freeloaders, but being poor and/or on government assistance doesn't make one less of an American.

Government assistance absolutely is the American dream -- if you're a bank... or an auto company... or a oil producer...

Medicaid is not busting our budget. Social Security and Medicare are. If you want to be the party to abolish those, by all means try.

Panetta needed to have been brought on board. As a Cabinet Secretary in a Democratic administration, his comments provided Republicans the cover they need to prevent these defense cuts/slowdowns in spending increases. If defense is exempted, then Democrats get furious and civil government cuts don't occur.

It's already bad enough Republicans would rather cut taxes to the non-job creating rich than avoid default.

So REAL Americans are only those who achieve the American dream? That would seem to make a woefully large percentage of us illegal immigrants.
