I think my DS would like a Kindle for Christmas. He already has a smart phone, so I do not want to give him another electronic device with internet access, nor do I want him to be able to sit in his room and watch movies at all hours by himself. I just want him to be able to download books (and newspapers/magazines). Do they still make models that do that, and only that? Which is the best one to get? TIA.
Yeah just get the basic model
Kindle $79.
The $79 model has "special offers" and ads. The $109 does not. I believe the one that is $109 is pretty much the one that used to be $139. Can connect to the internet to download content using your own wi-fi, but not for web browsing. I have it and use it every day for reading and crossword puzzles.

The Nook e-reader.
|
The Nook can be hacked by an enterprising teen or tween and turned into a web enabled Android tablet. The Kindle cannot.
Yep - anything below the Kindle Fire - and then get the wi-fi only version to make what little browsing capabilities there are even more painful to use.
I have the one with 3G and the browsing is still pretty limited..you can but you wouldn't want to much..definitely no movies. Fine when stuck in the airport with nothing else.
Sony Reader
