Nanny/for sale forums & "recent topics"

Anonymous
Jeff--I believe you've said that there's no way to exclude nanny posts from "recent topics" under the current set up. Would this be possible if the nanny/housekeeper/marketplace forums were set up on a different page? (Clearly I have NO idea how your software works, but just wondering..) Thanks!

Why should they be excluded from recent topics?

Among other things, nanny ads (esp nanny available ads) are often posted in multiple forums; these posts quickly crowd other subjects out of "recent topics" and contribute to more bumping. If possible, I'd suggest that the commercial forums be moved to a separate page with their own "recent topics" button.

Not suggesting that the "nanny discussion" forum be moved, BTW, just the "search" forums.

I have not actually counted, but it seems like there is an increase in "bumps" following the multiple nanny posts because people want their posts to get more views/feedback.

Right now, 23 of the "recent topics" are nanny search or nanny position search posts.

Your idea has some merit. It would require installing a separate instance of the forum software. I still think a better approach is to modify the Recent Topics function to exclude the nanny search posts. I have a lot on my plate these days, but hopefully I can find the time to make that modification.
