Do you have to be doing a complete wardrobe overhaul to work with a personal shopper or can it be just small scale? I have never availed of their services but was thinking of doing so. I am the type of person to wear jeans most of the time and would just like to find some dressy tops and perhaps a nice going out jacket. Not a huge budget either. Does this sound like something they do?
It's free at Nordstrom I know .. my mom used it just for a gown to wear to a wedding. Not sure about Saks/Neimans.
Nordstrom shoppers will work with you on anything -- no limit at all. they're great.
I used to work at a department store (hello Dayton's!) and from what I understand, they'll help anyone. It's more about the relationship in that they'd rather have a client who doesn't spend much at a time but is a faithful client for years. Really good personal shoppers will also call you when pieces that would look good on you come into the store. Double check with the store you're interested in, and I say go for it!

A colleague had a major coffee spill on her blouse and had a big meeting that day. She ran into Bloomingdales and asked the personal shopper for help. She got a great blouse quickly.
So I think they will work with you for a few pieces, e.g., nice slacks, some tops. |
