Actual Periods While Pregnant?

Anonymous
Has anyone experienced actual periods while pregnant? I know some spotting is expected but did anyone continue to menstrate for a while even though they were pregnant?

Well I was 14 weeks pregnant when I found out and had my periods the months before so yes it is possible I guess. I did notice that what later seemed to be my last period, was a lighter one than usual.

PP, were your periods right on time and normal or were they earlier and shorter?

I had bleeding that was as heavy as a period. Turned out I had a blood clot around the placenta, which eventually resolved itself.

How can the uterine lining and egg be shed (ie your period) if you have a mucous plug keeping it tight and closed off? Don't the hormones "shut off" ovulation so the body can put its resources into the developing womb?
Maybe if you have an ecotopic pregnancy?

OP - if you think that the blood is more than just light spotting and more "period -like" I'd call your doctor.

I had some bleeding the day my period should have started, but a few days after a positive test. I went to see the doc and he said that the lining builds up every month; when an embryo implants, it only needs a small portion. The rest of the lining breaks up and is usually absorbed by the body, but it can sometimes make its way out. That only explains the first month. There are about a million different reasons that someone can bleed while pregnant, but I don't see how someone could continue to have an actual period.

10:57 poster here: In hindsight my periods were lighter, especially the last one. Perhaps also shorter but I am not sure. I never had any thought of a possible pregnancy though.
