I'm 29 weeks and today and yesterday my stomach has felt sore...as if I've done a bunch of sit-ups (which obviously I haven't!). Earlier this week I felt a decrease in fetal movement, so I called my doctor and went in for a sonogram. Everything was fine, baby was perfect, and yesterday she was moving around a lot more. Yesterday when the stomach soreness was getting worse, I thought I just had gas (I have had painful gas cramps several times throughout the pregnancy) or maybe was a little constipated. But today it's just sore...it hurts when I walk, when I sit down, when I sit up...really weird. It's not like cramps, and it's not internal, it's more like a band of soreness around the center of my belly. Baby hasn't moved a whole lot today, but she usually doesn't get going until about half an hour from now (mid-morning). I know I can just call my doctor and see what she thinks, which I will if it doesn't get better in a few hours, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you. |
It might be ligament pain as your body stretches to fit your growing baby. I often get pain in my side like that (and did last pregnancy as well) but it is not in the center of my stomach so I am not sure.
Did your doctor say anything yesterday about being concerned? did he/she explain why you needed a sonogram? |
OP here: My doctor was not concerned at all; although she did say I was right to call about the decreased movement. Basically the sono was just to make sure everything was okay and to give me some peace of mind, which it did. I wasn't really sore when I saw the doc (on Tuesday).
I think the soreness may be totally unrelated to the movement issue. I should also point out that I've had minor diarrhea about three times in the last 18 hours or so, so it could be that I'm just having a really uncomfortable gastrointestinal problem! |
I am having the EXACT same thing right now (35 weeks). It feels like a cramp you get in your side/middle belly when you run. Also very sore. My husband pointed out that I literally leaped out of bed. I think I pulled something. Or round ligament pain. |
This is really weird, but I've also been having a lot of soreness on my stomach (feels like I did 1,000 crunches) and it's especially sore around my belly button. I asked my dr and he said it's my umbilical cord which is still attached inside of me. He said that it has nerve endings and can cause stomach soreness later on in pregnancy. |
OP here: I ended up calling my doctor mid-morning and she told me to go home and rest and to call her if it didn't get better by this afternoon. She said it's probably not contractions, but to be safe, she may send me to the hospital. It hasn't gotten better, so I will be calling her in a bit. The only reason I'm not more worried about it is that I have felt baby move normally today. I'm not looking forward to going to the hospital, but better safe than sorry. It just hurts so much when I move...hopefully they can do something to relieve the pain. Thanks for your responses! |
I know you said it's in the center of your stomach, but any chance it's appendicitis? I had appendicitis a few years ago (non-pregnant) and I at first thought it was gas as well...and it hurt when I moved around, and just generally felt awful. |
I had AWFUL round ligiment pains through out my pregnancy so far. I'm just about 30 weeks not and I do get a sore tender tummy a lot, but I also am on my feet a lot during the day so I figured the pressure of my belly was to blame. Earlier I also had the same pains as you mentioned, like I had just done 20,000 crunches but it was just everything stretching out =) So it's a good thing! |
To the OP-
Just checking in on you. You doing okay this evening? Hope you didn't have to go to the hospital. |
OP here: I did end up going to the hospital, but baby and I are both fine. My doctor sent me to Sibley just as a precaution. They tested my blood and urine, did a vaginal exam and sent a swab in for testing to make sure I wasn't going into labor. Fetal fibrinectin, I think is what they were testing. They also put me on an IV. They think I may have been a bit dehydrated. Got the fibrinectin test results this morning, and they were negative, so all is well. The soreness is gone now, which is a big relief. I just need to make sure I'm getting enough fluids from now on. I'm very relieved! Thanks for checking in. |
