We wanted to take our dog running on crescent trail on Thursday morning to burn some steam before he's cooped up at the inlaws for thanksgiving. We were aiming for 830ish. I just realized Bethesda has the Turkey Trot that morning. Will downtown Bethesda and the parking lot be packed? I see it start/ends at bcc YMCA so I don't think runners would park in Bethesda...
I don't think so -- the turkey trot is pretty far up the road. When we went last year, the congestion didn't start until we'd gotten north of downtown Bethesda.

check the ymca website. we start at the Y travel thru some neighborhood and then right onto wisconsin along nih/navy med - turn right somewhere (maybe cordell?) and then right onto old gtown and back up to the Y. if you're at the entrance to the cap crescent behind honda dealer -- you're fine. I run it - its fun - just don't remember the route -

I used to live right on the route and would wake up to the sound of the runners every Thanksgiving morning. I was just telling my husband the other day that its the one thing I will miss on Thanksgiving this year now that we've moved. For some reason, I always loved waking up in the morning and cheering the runners on in my PJs!
But I lived at least 2 miles from downtown Bethesda so if you are sticking to that area, you should be fine. |
You'll be fine if you park over by the pool, on Little Falls. That's at least a mile away from any of the action.
Totally agree with Little Falls suggestion (I live near Little Falls and also run the Turkey Trot). Turkey Trot craziness is pretty confined the the area immediately surrounding the Bethesda Y (race is 6.1 miles so that radius around Y on Old Georgetown). Won't be anywhere near the CCT.
You wont be impacted. Everyone parks in the neighborhood surrounding the ymca.
