DCPS High School Fair Experience

Anonymous
Attended the fair, Phelps area was infectious the group assembled was extremely focused. I liked the following Eastern, Phelps, Cardozo, Roosevelt, Coolidge and Spingarn. The absolutely worst school with representation present was Woodson. How can someone promote STEM and was clearly not knowledgeable of the facts. It was painful. I find it amusing to see what extent schools will use to attract new students. Eastern's facility gorgeous and that marching band was the best as it made the fair experience worth-it. There's nothing like a spectacular closing to a phenomenal event.

Just a word of advice for next year consider sharing the wealth and choose another venue i.e., Wilson. Merely because you have had it at Luke Moore and now Eastern for two years in a row.

Back to the worst as in Woodson a one million dollar building with the only STEM focus program and when you inquire about it, all that is recieved is crickets. I wouldn't want to bring any suspicion to the sole presenter but was he on medication or something else?

Kudos to Duke Ellington students they were extremely poised and engaging.

Finally to the DCPS organizers hard work resulted in a well executed program. See ya, next year.

why not at eastern, or another centrally located school? cos really, wilson is at the edge of the city, schoolwise
Anyway, I went, and was impressed with the building and the range of options

Was McKinley represented?

8:35, we are showcasing all of the high schools and not just Eastern. Therefore by choosing other venues wouldn't hurt. The centrally located aspect of Eastern only helps with activities. We as parents will travel to the ends of this earth for the best education prospect.

Also everything that you saw at Eastern was not exclusively Eastern.

McKinley was represented but was understated in my opinion. If I may I think out of all of the specialty schools, Banneker had the best display for application only schools.

That's an interesting response. I am a huge Banneker fan. My husband took our son to the fair. My son loved McKinley's presentation and thought Banneker was ho hum. He was not interested at all. This did not help my argument for Banneker at all.

My son also liked Phelps. I may, perhaps, consider McKinley. The thing that really dismays me is that I have been on the Metro with kids from McKinley and I thought there behavior was abhorrent.

I always thought that the application only high schools lacked that certain uuumph. As I guess they feel you must apply to our schools and that should be the allure. DCPS gives an unofficial rating score on the schools that had "top" displays and they were with Phelps-first, Eastern-second and Cardozo-third. Yeah, that McKinley team was extremely enthusiastic and Principal Pinder was extremely engaging.

I think every metro-rider that has the unfortunate commute time near a school will say that all DCPS students display a behavior that is abhorrent. What does a school do to correct that situation?

The Roosevelt display earned high honors as well.

23:17, If I may, if an employee(s) who has on the company uniform becomes unruly and rude on the metro would you blame COMCAST, Washington Gas, PEPCO and UPS companies as a whole for a bad representation of the company?

Perception is everything.

I don't condone the actions but I am not as critical of the DCPS children.

" all DCPS students display a behavior that is abhorrent. "

Really? I will say that I have commuted alongside Gonzaga boys and have never, ever seen anything problematic.

On the other hand, the McKinley students are basically feral, based on their commuting behavior.

As a result, I would never consider the latter as a viable option for my family.

Duh rah!!! Gonzaga is not in the DCPS inventory. I rest my case. But stay opinionated and remember the school that you don't want probably doesn't want you. It is all about school choice.

Yep. Pretty sure those McKinley kids don't want my family, given the racist shit they say to white people.

But 1152, stay strong. Stay proud. Feel good knowing that it's perfectly ok for DCPS students to act like animals.

When it's time to get a decent job, and none are forth coming, explain to your little dears that all that disgusting behavior they've practiced throughout their school years can and will be held against them in the hiring process.

Oh, it is a race thing. How I didn't guess that from jump street. Okay, when school is not in session and the little darlings are not wearing the uniform of McKinley and you're riding the metro doing summer vacation months with some abhorrent young people, who do you blame?

I thinking if they are wearing GAP attire...

As for your scenario about holding someone's behaviour against them just makes you an EEO case waiting to happen. Why have the need for a decent job, when all is necessary is to sue you for damages.

Ok. Explain why it is ok for dcps students to act like animals on the metro? We are all waiting
Anonymous
There's no explanation or excuse for their behavior OVERALL it doesn't have to be the fact that they attend a DCPS school. Your animal reference is a double-edge sword. I am just wondering have you shared your concerns with Principal Pinder at McKinley, I do believe the school's information is attainable through the www.dcps.dc.gov website.

As you are waiting for me, please let your fingers do the walking/dialing/texting/typing and get in touch with McKinley. I can assure you no animals will attack you while doing the right thing and let McKinley know how you really feel.

GroowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwL!!!!!

Interesting. First you at 12:18 say all DCPS students display "abhorrent" behavior. Then the people who are victimized by this sort of behavior are apparently supposed to make these children behave? Quite the leap of reasoning.

Hmmm. I'm thinking no.

Perhaps there are some other red line riders who would like to parent these children? They should definitely spend their free time tracking down McKinley's principal then. Not me though.

Anonymous
Wait did you not group all Mckinley students as being abhorrent and I only was stating that all DCPS children can display such behaviour. I am of the firm believer if by chance one can make a differnce by getting involved then I do so. You on the other hand want to group and label all students with a characterization because of your redline experience. Better yet don't call McKinley's Principal why not utilize the Metro Police. Ooops, I forgot you are probably a punk ass. Tsk, tsk, tsk
