| I shop at Whole Foods almost 4 times a week for lunch. It is a nice little get away from the office and I go through the buffet almost each time. I love to have a little bite of everything, but my "habit" is costing me. I am spending over $150 there a week. Help me!!!!! |
|
Uh...stop yourself from going?
Seriously, though: think about what that $150/wk would buy you if you didn't spend it. That's about $600 a month, or $7800 per year. You could buy a DAMN fine vacation, pay down your debt (car? student loan?), save for a downpayment, contribute to retirement, etc. Whenever you are tempted to go blow that cash, think about what you're saving it for instead. And bring something appetizing from home. That way you don't feel deprived. |
| How on the he'll cam you spend $37 per meal at a buffet. Ate you buying 5 pounds of food at a time??? |
| Make it a once a week treat for yourself and pack your lunch the rest of the week. That's how I deal with my Starbucks habit. Once a week. I really look forward to it that way. |
| Stop going. Pack lunches. Treat yourself once a week or once a month or something if your budget allows. |
For sure. That's how I also deal with my frou-frou coffee habit... |
|
seriously, how can you possibly be spending almost $40 a day for lunch? step away from the buffet sister
|
| Would it be bad of me to ask how much you weigh OP? |
| It sounds like she shops there too. |
|
I spend way too much there too, but then I go into saving mode, I almost always make my own lunches.
I managed my fancy coffee habit by making my own concoctions with regalar coffee each morning. |
| OP here: I weigh 130. It's just that I load up on all kinds of veggies on the salad bar- I love cauliflower and that's probably the heaviest thing. But I also buy the unusual drinks they sell in the cooler, and maybe some olives to munch on. It's insane, I know! |
| I also spend $150/wk at Whole Foods, but that's to feed my family of four for the week! |
For 40 bucks, you could be eating lunch practically anywhere in the District, as long as you don't order a bottle of wine. |
It's less expensive to make the same thing at home. Buy veggies, make a salad, and pack it for your lunch. Go out once a week or once a month or not at all - whichever your budget allows. |
| Stop by my house at lunchtime. I'm happy to serve you a plate full of cauliflower for just $25. Heck, I'll throw in the olives for free. |
