Woods Academy?

Have heard mixed reviews about the Woods Academy in the past and that they were having an attrition problem. I know they have an entirely new administration this year. Have things improved? We're considering applying our DD for the lower school and appreciate any first-hand feedback.

We've been there for 8 years. have been pleased all along and yes, the school does have a new Head and Asst. Head. Both are great and have brought a great new excitment to the school! Being told of many new initiatives to grow the school.....suggest you at least take a look...have a 7th grader....got on to see high school opinions of Prep and St. John's options if anyone has an opinion.

Definitely call and schedule a tour to see if it is a good fit for your family. Our three children have been there for 4 years and we are very happy. The new head and new assistant head are impressive--tons of energy, new ideas and clearly very knowledgeable about best practices in education. Woods is small but offers so much (and for a bargain price relative to other private schools). Not sure any other private school in the area offers daily foreign language instruction beginning in K. Plus, the community is wonderful. Worth your time to at least get a tour.

Thanks for the advice. I do worry about the size....having such a small group of girls in each grade makes me worry a bit...but will check it out.

I'm happy to offer a first-hand opinion of Woods. My daughter is in 3rd grade, and this is her 5th year here. From the moment we walked into the school, we knew this was the place for her. Because of the size of the school, there is a real feeling of community. All the staff know my daughter and she feels at home. Academics are strong and challenging, but are made fun with lots of hands-on lessons. "Specials," such as music, foreign languages, and art are a tremendous bonus. I agree with previous posts that the new administration is bringing great energy. Come to an Open House, tour the school; I'm sure you'll be impressed.

Certain attitude starting from teachers, directors and parents. I wonder if most of private/independent schools have an arrogant attitude?

It's a Montessori school. Research this philosophy/approach before considering for your child. It's not for everyone.

The Montessori is ONLY for the early childhood years (ages 3-6.)
The rest of the school is not Montessori.
