Please share your DC's WISC scores and let us know whether you gained admission to one of the privates discussed regularly on this board.

99th percentile, and waitlisted at two of the schools.

| 99th, applied and accepted to two. |

98th -- accepted at one, waitlisted at other
other child: 99.6th -- accepted at none |
| 99.7% Wailisted at one, and accepted at the other. |

What do you think that means? WISC scores probably don't mean that much.
In my DC's case I know it was only a screening device at best (I think they had some unofficial bar they wanted the child to exceed, but I don't think it had any influence past that bar). |
Totally agree with this post. Our DC scored in the 86th percentile and yes got into one of the Big 3. I truly believe the teacher recommendation and the visit are huge factors in the admissions process. We will never be sure what occurs during the visit, but I believe the prospective students are given an assessment to evaluate school readiness and known knowledge; which is probably another component of the admissions process. Just my thoughts . . . |
| I don't think any of us would want to send our children to a school that looked solely at test scores. |
| 86th Percentile - waitlisted at 2 (both from the big 3) and accepted at 1 (non-big 3). |
| i have served on an admissions committee. Low scores or big discrepancies (20 pts or more) between subsets can be a flag for learning disabilities, but not always. Kids with very high scores but poor social skills or teacher recs will not be accepted. The WISC is simply one piece of the puzzle. If it were just about Wisc scores, there'd be no reason for a visit. |
| From reading this thread, it doesn't seem like the WISC is that important at all. |
| Pardon my ignorance, but what are the "big three" that everyone keeps refering to? |
| 99th and accepted to Sidwell, Maret and NCS |
Depends on who you ask. But generally, Sidwell, GDS and the Cathedral Schools combined (Beauvoir/NCS/STA). |
| At what age do children start taking the WISC instead of the WPPSI? Is it 6? |
