I've missed doing a big service project around Christmas, and I wondered if there were any organized ones. This is our first christmas in DC, and my chance to try out our new family traditions.
I'll keep looking, but I thought I would float the idea. I'm in Silver Spring, but able to travel. I have a slight preference for Christmas eve, but would do Christmas day, and there are two of us plus an infant (who is fine being worn, so giving me two hands to work with).
I belonged to an organization that did this but we made it a special point to let the parents know so they could receive the gifts and not give them to the children until Christmas morning. It is so mean to give them to the kids early. We also adopted families for the year and helped them with groceries, clothes, etc. Every child got at least one thing on their Christmas or birthday list that they really wanted and the gifts were from Santa or parents. My church did this.
