...on deck Rick Santorum.
Apparently he is the new #2 in the polls. At least there are no surprises with him. He's not batshit crazy (Bachmann), he's not mentally challenged (Perry), unlike Cain his sexual indiscretions are well documented and restricted to plain vanilla infidelity, and he's not a Mormon. Let's face it, that's pretty much the GOP position description at this point. Still I have to wonder, how do you feel if you are Mitt Romney? You see how people will grasp at any straw, no matter how farfetched, in an attempt to not vote for you. If he does get the nomination, how can it feel like anything other than an entire political party throwing in the towel and settling. |
what do I think?
I think Christie, Mitch Daniels and Jeb Bush are kicking themselves .... |
Go Newt! I've always thought he was the only plausible Republican candidate, and the only one I could vote for with enthusiasm (that excludes Romney) and without embarrassment (excludes everyone else). Unlike current Pres, he has vast experience and thus knows how our complex government works, and he has thought deeply about all of the major public policy issues i(you have to concede this, even if you don't agree with him). So I for one am hoping the trend continues. |
And Huckabee. I was always a little nervous about him (speaking as a D) |
Pawlenty, too -- he could have easily come back and had his turn in the "I'm not Romney" spotlight.
Newt is such old news. I think he's just auditioning for some nice, high-paying gig on Fox news that will cover his jewelry bills and, possibly, introduce him to wife #5(?) |
ie, the ultimate washington insider is now going to be the Tea Party's man. |
I'm sure he's already met her. |
I won't vote for lizards, geckos or other slimy things. |
Newt is the architect of the greatest Republican victory of last 50 years. He is to be underestimated at Democrats' peril. |
He's also the ultimate insider, his own staff quit, and no one would touch him in this race until the top candidates imploded. The fact that he is the candidate of last resort says about all you need to know. Peril. Funny. |
...The last time I saw that expression about a candidate in this forum was the following:
"I'm sure she's as smart as Edwards is, if not smarter. As I've said, I believe we dismiss her at our peril." Of course that was Sarah Palin. Oopsie! |
He'll say what he needs to. Remember how he was for mandatatory health insurance? And how he reversed himself now that he is running for President? |
The Post Style section had a great tidbit recently about Newt sipping champagne in a cafe while his wife shopped at Tiffany's. Any Democrat who lived like that would be raked over the coals by pitchfork-wielding Tea Baggers. |
Newt said that his recent Greek cruise (the event that provoked his staff to quit) helped him learn about the Greek debt crisis. |
*shaking head* WTH is wrong with Republicans? Newt? Are you serious?
And why is no one putting their energy behind the one Republican candidate who might be able to give Obama a run for his money -- Huntsman? Yes, I know why, he's not right enough. PLEASE someone give me a viable option! |
