Yes, there is a place that sells cakes/wines/cheeses right outside the Ballston Metro, I believe?
Also, maybe an ice cream cake from Coldstone in the mall?

Harris Teeter is also right there behind the mall on Glebe. There is a TCBY on Randolph between Fairfax and Wilson that I also believe has cakes.

I saw the bakery directly across the metro exit, but got a Cookie Dough Cake at Cold Stone in the mall. It was yummy! ~ZM
