Dr. Laurie Dietzel, Ph.D will be presenting information on the executive functioning challenges in students with ASD. Dr. Dietzel will provide a "user-friendly" framework for understanding the self-regulatory, cognitive control skills described as the executive functions. After defining these essential skills, she will focus on working memory, initiation, and cognitive flexibility as these are often areas of weakness for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. Setting realistic expectations, providing appropriate accommodations, and interventions will be summarized and time for questions and discussion will be provided.
