Question for couponers (re Giant coupon policy)

Anonymous
I know Giant accepts competitor coupons, but is that only for cents off coupons? The website doesn't specify so I assume it is all competitor coupons, not just cents off.

I am hoping I can use some Safeway coupons (there were a TON this week!) that are for a specific price, rather than cents off, and also combine with a mfr coupon. I know you can use one of each per item, but I've only ever used the cents off coupons from competitors.

Wondering if they will give me the competitor price (eg, using a Safeway or Walgreens coupon that says get item for $x) and also deduct the mfr coupon from that price.

Do any of you couponers do this at Giant?

Hmm. Well if it's just a sale price, then I think Giant will match it anyway. But in this case, it's a store coupon (from Safeway) for a specific price. At Giant, I believe you cannot combine a store and manufacturer's coupon on the same item anyway.

Ok I just looked at Giant's site. They make no mention of store coupons, perhaps because they don't really have them? (They do Catalinas)

On an unrelated note, you can send expired coupons to support military families. I just sent a bunch today:

You can combine coupons at Giant, but as pp said it's rare to find giant-store coupons

What about a cents off safeway coupon and a regular coupon?

OP here. That's wrong. You can use one mfr coupon & one store coupon per item. Also, the website specifically says you can use competitor coupons, which by definition means store (as opposed to mfr) coupons from other stores. Giant does occasionally print coupons of their own; there were some in this week's flyer for the upcoming week. And catalinas, for the most part, are mfr coupons that can be used anywhere. Once in a while they are store coupons but usually they are mfr.

I wasn't asking about matching a sale price, though, I was asking about using a competitor's store coupon in Giant. So, for example, say Safeway has cereal for $3 but they printed a coupon that you can use to get it for $2. The coupon is not "$1 off cereal," it's "cereal, $2 with coupon" so you have to use the coupon to get that price. If you just walk into Safeway without the coupon, you would pay $3. If I were in Safeway, I could use the Safeway coupon + a mfr coupon, if I had one, for the same cereal. I was wondering if Giant would do the same. I know I could use a Safeway "$1 off cereal" and a mfr "$1 off cereal" to get $2 off the same box of cereal in Giant. I do that all the time. Their policy is one of each type of coupon per item.

I know Giant was not accepting printed online coupons in the past, does anyone know if they accept printed coupons now?

At Giant today there was a huge sign on the door saying GIANT ACCEPTS SAFEWAY COUPONS

OP - We have used Safeway coupons like you've described at Giant. As long as they are for the same item (a lot of Safeway's coupons are for their brand of goods, not like Kelloggs or something available at both stores), they will honor them. Although when we have done this, it takes longer at checkout because they have the find the item and manually enter the price.

13:13, thanks! That answers my question!

Yes, I always bring the good safeway coupons into Giant. If it's a specific price, like .99 for peanut butter, you need to redeem it at customer service. If it's cents off, they'll do it at the register. Last week I even brought the lucerne 18 egg coupon and the manager agreed to honor that for the giant brand 18 eggs.

FWIW, I shop at the Arlington Road store.

I'm really angry -- my store circulars didn't come this week!!
