Insomnia

Anyone finding they are suffering from insomnia as they get older? Any tips for beating it? I am so exhausted, but I rarely get a full night's sleep these days even though I have time to do so. If something wakes me after about 2 a.m., I basically can't get back to sleep. Help!

I believe it is hormone related. I'm only 43 but I've been doing IVF cycles for the past few months and I had terrible insomnia and anxiety with the birth control pills that began the second cycle. I was prescribed Ambien, which didn't work, and then Klonopin, which did work but scared the crap out of me because it is addictive and then red wine and Unisom, which also worked but was not a long term solution. I had generalized anxiety during the day and became more anxious as bedtime approached. It was awful even though I was exercising, boot camp in the morning and a 3-4 mile run in the afternoon, jut to try to tire myself out. I had so much nervous energy.

Finally, the doctor suggested acupuncture because I really wasn't interested in a pharmaceutical solution, because I was heading into another IVF cycle. It worked the first treatment and I am completely back to normal. I would give acupuncture a try. It worked miracles for me. I see Alexandra Knox in Cleveland Park 202-332-2929. Give it at try. It can only help.
