Recommend an educational consultant for a child with multiple disabilities

Anonymous
Looking for someone who could recommend an appropriate placement for a child entering kindergarten, ideally someone with knowledge of what's available nationally. TIA.

Is this for a child with cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, or emotional?

OP here: cognitive and physical, no emotional or behavioral issues. Seemingly above-average intelligence as demonstrated by an extraordinary memory. Can recognize sight words. Very limited speech, but an ability to communicate (in his own way) using words, signs and gestures. A very pleasant, hard-working little guy. Still, needs an extraordinary amount of structure, cannot attend for very long at non-preferred activities, significant fine motor difficulty, very low tone.

I don't know if any of the consultants here are aware of programs nationwide. We dealt with one consultant often recommended on this board and were pushed towards one particular school. When dh and I visited, we knew immediately it wasn't a good fit for dc. Turns out educational consultant hadn't been there in a few years. At these special needs schools, the population can change greatly over a few years. My point is that it is best to do the research yourself and go visit the schools. I believe there is an educational fair for exceptional schools coming up soon (someone posted a link on another thread). This would be a good place to go to talk to people to get a feel for which schools you want to visit in person.

Personally, I find 'ed consultants' a waste of time if you are in need of solely placement. Are you targeting any specific areas of the country? Are you looking for public or private?
