When do you move from an infant to toddler mattress?

what exactly do you mean by mattress? I mean, I know what a mattress is I just don't hear of people specifically moving to "toddler" mattresses.

For us, DD slept in her crib and used the same mattress from birth until age 2.5. At that age, she moved to her bed where she had a normal twin size mattress.

We really never used a toddler mattress.
