| I am looking into childcare options for my 13 month old son. Any in-home daycares or centers with openings right now in Arlington? We live near Ballston. I would prefer something 2 or 3 days a week, but will consider full-time-only options as well. Thanks! |
| I have absolutely no experience with these people, but there is a daycare called Fabiola's Daycare on George Mason between Wilson and Carlin Springs that recently put out a sign with a phone number, so I assume they may have openings. Again, NO EXPERIENCE with them - it's just on my commute. |
| Have you tried BCC? Not sure about their waitlist, but we had a good experience there and they do offer 2- and 3- day programs. |

20:04 - thanks for the tip! I will try to find out more about that place.
20:54 - I have looked at Ballston Children's Center, but they don't take children until they are 2.5 years old. |
| Any other suggestions? |

Check craigslist. On Friday (4 Nov) , there was a home provider near Ballston that indicated she had openings. I cross referenced it with the county listing and she was there. I am looking for part-time care, which she didn't offer so I can't tell you anymore.
|
| Also, I assume you've already downloaded the directory of home care providers available from the county website. Also, there is a google maps widget that shows all the providers locations. You still have to contact each one to see if they have care available, but it's a good starting point. |

Try this site:
http://www.dss.state.va.us/facility/search/licensed.cgi search by county or zip code and make a list of places licensed for infants, then start calling around. Once you find some possibilities, post the names here and we can weigh in if we know anything. (sorry i don't have any recs - we are at BCC, but had daycare in Fairfax before that.) |
| How about NSF? |

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I will definitely try craigslist.
Yes, I have the Arlington county list, and have also used the VA state database to find providers and check licensing and violations. I was hoping to get some info on specific openings but have been calling the providers one by one on my own in the meantime. I will post if I find any with openings and would love feedback if anyone has any. We have been on the waitlist for both NSF and FDIC for over a year and do not expect to get in for at least another 6 months (spouse is a federal employee but not at one of those agencies). To be honest, the serious violations at NSF that came to light over the past year and the fact that their license was not renewed for the full year has scared me off. But I got a better feeling from the FDIC site when I visited so we're keeping them in mind for the future if we ever get in. |
I would call back to NSF as the new provider will be in place in about a month, and you'll have an environment where EVERYTHING is being watched carefully. The facility itself is quite nice, and there are wonderful teachers (who will likely be staying with the new provider). |
