"Mr. McCain, who with his wife, Cindy, has an adopted daughter, said flatly that he opposed allowing gay couples to adopt. “I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption,” he said.
But he declined to take a specific position when asked whether only evolution should be taught in public schools. “It’s up to the school boards,” he said. “That’s why we have local control over education.”" http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/us/politics/13mccain.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=mccain%20and%20gay&st=cse&oref=slogin |
I understand that this is what passes for straight talk so I shouldn't question it. But, doesn't "gay couple" imply "both parents"? In contrast, how does divorcing the mother of three children in order to marry a young, pretty, wealthy heiress help the success of a family by providing the all important "both" parents? Such the maverick! |
he's seems to be going more to the right to appease the religious right and appease the more hardline conservatives.
He's one to advocate family values dumping his old, disabled wife and 3 kids for a significantly young rich hottie. |
McCain has flip-flopped on gay adoption!!!!
That's not particularly straight talk from Mr. Straight-Talking Maverick. Apparently, his position is that he personally opposes adoption by gays, but accepts that it is better than nothing. He doesn't support federal legislation to prohibit adoption by gays. So, he opposes it, but doesn't want to prohibit it because its better than the alternative. Kind of like having his cake and eating it too. |
Now that I think about it, he really fits in with those multiply married rightwingers like Bob Barr, Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole and god knows who else. Those people are threatening the sanctity of marriage! |
Yikes! |
