| And you're opposed to gay marriage because it makes a mockery out of the institution of marriage, what do you say about Kim Kardashian? |
|
Who cares about that bimbo? As her mom pointed out once, that family has no talent whatsoever (can't act, can't sing, etc.) so the only way to stay in the limelight and make money is to court controversy. Kinda like Sarah Palin.
People who claim marriage is between a man and a woman are acting like mindless robots spewing out whatever dogma they were brainwashed with early on. They are unable to justify their opinion on the basis of any moral ground other than that some higher authority told them so. signed happily married hetero mother of two |

I think you need to stop turning every thread into your issues, and creating threads about your issues when existing threads can't be redirected into your issues.
I think there may be exactly one poster on DCUM who is anti-gay. She will undoubtedly show up on this thread. But why drag the rest of us, who sympathize with you but are getting weary, into your spat with this one person? Signed, Hetero mother of two who is totally pro-gay and pro-gay marriage |

What the.... I have never posted a single thread on this issue, so I don't know who the hell you're talking to 10:12. Wake up on the wrong side of the bed??
I'm asking a genuine question about how these two things are reconciled in the heads of some of these people. If you don't want to answer, move along. |
| FTR I am completely, 100%, pro-gay marriage, but pretty much everyone I know who is anti-gay marriage is also anti-divorce. Either way, I don't know anyone who is pro-Kardashian, whether they are for gay marriage or not. Kind of a lame argument, OP. |
But for people who are anti-gay marriage for the sole reason that it makes a mockery out of marriage (you hear this a lot), doesn't this make a bigger mockery out of marriage? |
|
They made it 71 days in Hollywierd that is a sucessful marriage.
Comparing those fools to your neighbors (of whatever orientation) is like apples and oranges. |
| I agree, this is a lame analogy. For the people who are anti-gay marriage (not me), it's about "condoning" a particular way to have sex. Anyway, the Kardashians are a joke and not a model of anything. |
I don't think it's anyone's "sole reason".... but for argument's sake, even if the Kardashians are a "bigger mockery", a mockery is a mockery, right? Kind of like beating someone up is bad, but murdering someone is worse. Doesn't make beating up someone okay. Understand? Again, I am 100% pro-gay marriage, but let's not fight an illogical position (being against gay marriage) with illogical arguments. Doesn't help your cause. |
| OP did you steal that from George Takei (aka Sulu?). I saw his quote in the free Metro paper this morning. He makes a good point! |
Didn't see that, but I'll look at it. |
| OP, you clearly don't understand that POV (and the rest of us don't either). BUT that crowd is mostly bible-thumpers who consider marriage solely a religious institution. They aren't arguing that gays would make a mockery of marriage they mostly argue that the bible says 'between a man and a woman.' That basically ends the discussion because one non-academic person can't argue with what the bible does or doesn't say. |
| I personally am pro-gay rights/gay marriage, but answering from my parents' POV, which is anti-gay marriage, they would be against anything that makes a mockery out of marriage, whether it's (in their minds) gay marriage or two fools like KK and her husband. |
| The "sanctity of marriage" argument is laughable whether Kim Kardashian is involved or not. |
| Marriage was just a good business decision for her. She earned something like 246K PER DAY being married. The wedding earned 18 million dollars. Not too shabby. |
