ECNL moving to school year not calendar

ECNL should just let 18 players born after Aug 1st play down an age group. This is just a rule change which ECNL owns from a league perspective and doesn't need approval from US Soccer to implement. What would happen is ECNL would still officially be BY like everyone else. But, the teams would all be SY.

If ECNL can address trapped players with a rule change why don't they just do that?

Hubris, ego, ECNL wants to show the US Soccer that they're in control.

For those that don't know US Soccer when they were running DA forced ECNL to change from SY to BY in 2018.

This is why I'm not supporting a change to SY. This is just a pissing match between people that control youth soccer. No matter what solution is chosen someone is going to be unhappy. So to me it just makes sense to keep everything which is functional for everyone involved in place. Making the change is a waste of time and resources.

If you believe SY vs BY is all the same, and a functional system should be left in place, you must also harbor some resentment towards US Soccer for the way they changed it before. The more I read about the change from SY to BY, the reasoning, the repercussions, the lack of input from those affected, etc., the more I dislike USSF. If this is nothing more than a pissing match, I have to say I'm cheering for US Club, USYS, and AYSO to stick it to USSF.

I keep trying to figure out if this is somehow a way for ECNL to finish GA off for good. With several top GA clubs moving to ECNL this year, and rumors of 4-5 more next year, is this another moat to build around ECNL as the top league?

On the other hand this may be the reason why they want USSF to go along with it as, if they go it alone, there might be some defection to GA for Q1/Q2 born if ECNL goes SY and GA stays BY, which would be dumb for ECNL to do I would think.

No resentment here.

Currently with BY alignment all leagues in America can play against each other. Also all teams in America can play against teams from other countries and there's no issues.

I see parallels between BY and SY and Imperial vs Metric. Everyone knows that Metric makes more sense, is easier to use, and is what 99% of the world uses. But some people like imperial because it's what they're used to or it fits in whatever convention they don't want to move away from.

There will definitely be defection as their is anytime a kids isn’t getting the PT or isn’t in a situation they feel is best for them. The reality is the majority of top players and their families will stay in ECNL regardless if everyone changes or just ECNL. For girls college recruiting especially.

But you will probably see it go both ways as kids and parents usually want to play at the highest competitive level.

The boys side will be interesting if this happens only for ECNL? Will a boy whose subs on a MLSN or another academy league want to now go play ECNL with his school age group?

Never going to happen, GA is here to stay.

ECNL had their chance to take over the youth soccer market when DA blew up and chose to not capitalize.

Wait until US Soccer implements NWSL Next via the top clubs in GA. ECNL parents minds will melt.

That’s the way it should be. No one group should have the entire market. Everyone should be rooting for GA to be successful as families should want as many great options as possible.

We are probably 5 years away from a NWSL league at least. But again the more options the better.

I'd cheer for GA to be successful by offering something slightly different, like BY alignment focused on a pro pathway rather than a college pathway. If they offer the exact same thing, it just splits up the competition and causes people to travel further for games.

Having 2 top leagues + one is BY and the other is SY this means cutoff dates are Jan 1st and Aug 1st.

This would conpleley address the RAE arguement.

If your kid was born in the first half of the year you'd play GA and if they were born in the 2nd half of the year they'd play ECNL. Assuming you believe that RAE is real. (I dont)

Which 4-5 more are you hearing?

Lou Fusz?
CUP?
CITY SC?
TopHat?
Florida United?
West Fl Flames?
Palm Beach Kicks?

I like how quickly ECNL parents can switch from making up SY rumors to making up rumors about top GA clubs switching to ECNL.

ECNL has taken over. GA is limping along. ECNL has monopolized college pathway.
