Anyone else panicking with college apps?

Anonymous
My DD and I both tend to procrastinate and we are now down to the wire with getting applications in for early decision. All the college visits we've gone to have really stressed the benefits of applying early and I guess we're caught in that trap.
Feeling very stressed and wondering how everyone else is doing, also, I've got to figure out a better method than the procrastinate/panic model for the next round of apps.
I know we've brought this on ourselves, so I'm already self-blaming, self-flagellating. Therefore only helpful responses encouraged!

It is hard to get organized OP -- but if your child has a first choice school --- he/she really should try applying early. The number/percentage of admits is usually much more favorable with Early Decision.

I would make a folder for each school the child is applying to. Find out what is needed for each school's application -- put that in the folder and go from there.

Schedule a time each day to go over applications with your child. He/she will do fine. Good luck!

You generally are only able to apply to one school early decision or early action. Maybe you have some rolling admission ones in there too?

Get the common app done first. There is only one essay so it's not that bad. Assume you've already done transcript and recommendation requests, score reports, etc?

Then just start doing the supplemental apps one by one. Some are pretty easy and only have a couple of short answer questions Others take real time (e.g., Wake Forest). A few schools have no supplement so once she's done the common app she is done.

make a checklist of all the things that are due and the deadlines for each.

Also make sure she is applying to a reasonable number of schools. My DC applied to 6 last year. It was plenty.

OP, please double check early decision vs early applying. U
Your Dd can only apply to one school early decision. And if accepted, she is committed to attending that school. Early application is just applying early, however at some schools, the top kids are applying esrly. If your dd is in the middle type of students for a certain college, she may have netter like waiting for regular application
