Took my child to the info night and she LOVED it.....she wants to apply....how hard is it to get into? Her home MS is fine..but I've never seen her this excited about school before, we attended the other area magnet nite and it was an entirely Ho-Hum evening for her so she won't try for that one--no interest in the Math/Science to the extent it is focused on in that magnet? we never really looked at them in earlier grades and I just assumed she'd go to her home school but we'd check them out just in case....She needs to write 2 essays on her own and then I guess test scores, etc. are the deciding factors? would love additional pertinent information.

OP here, to clarify, she does love school but the excitement and enthusiasm she showed for the learning/experience at EMS just astonished me |
It's fairly difficult to get in to. My kid is in the math/science magnet (he loves math/science...) and they took maybe 1 out of 5 kids. You can download the applications online.
A word of advice: the application for the high school magnets are due Nov. 7, i.e., just another week from now. I'm guessing the middle school apps are also due soon. So tell her to apply all that enthusiasm and get on it! |
Yep ... 600 kids for 100 spots for Eastern, 700 kids for 125 spots (25 of them TPMS boundaries only) for Takoma.
With that said, SOMEONE has to get in, right?! My son is there and it's a great program. My second child will apply this year. Fingers crossed! |
