| I was very unhappy to discover yesterday that Costco has (only temporarily, according to the employee I spoke to -- but there is no information about when it might possibly return) discontinued their house brand organic peanut butter. We go through a case a year of peanut butter in this house! Can anyone recommend a good peanut butter to replace it that tastes similar? I don't like Smuckers Natural because of the grainy texture and I would prefer not to buy a major brand. Organic is not a must because I'm not willing to pay $5 for an 18 oz. jar. The Kirkland brand had two ingredients -- peanuts and salt. I think I read somewhere that the Target brand, Archer Farms, is good. Anyone? |

FYI, I did a little searching and here's the scoop on why this happened.
http://momjovi.com/2011/10/stock-up-on-the-pb/ Damn I wish I had known this was coming. I would have bought a whole garage full. |
| Oh, great, this got moved to Food where no one will ever see it. Fab. |
| Do you happen to have a VitaMix - the super powerful blender?? We make our own peanut butter using peanuts from Costco. You just throw them in the VitaMix and grind for about 3-4 minutes and it makes beautiful peanut butter. You can add salt or roast the peanuts beforehand if you like. |
| target is good |
| Trader joes |
| Whole Foods--they have organic peanut you can grind yourself. 100% organic and natural, nothing extra added. |
| Santa Cruz Organic, available at whole foods and other natural type stores. They have four types - light and dark roast, crunchy and smooth. I like the dark and crunchy kind. No weird additions, just plain yummy peanut butter. You do need to stir it when you first buy it because the oil settles on top. |
| Whole Foods has a 36 oz jar of store-brand (365) pb, crunchy or creamy, non-organic, only peanuts and salt. It's $3.50. We always buy this and it's excellent. I think they have case discounts, also. |
| WF and TJs. |
| TJ's organic PB is also gone right now for the same supply/price reasons. Their conventional PB is available, though. I think they might still have the organic Valencia peanut PB, but it's much pricier. |
| OP here: We don't have a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's near us (both are 20-30 min away), but that's a good thought. From what I read, peanut butter prices will be going up soon. I bought some O Organics from Amazon in bulk -- I think it will last about a year. Maybe by then Costco will have brought theirs back. Thanks all! |

I'm very disappointed that Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter is discontinued.
I went to 6 chain stores today ("Smart & Final", "Target", "Albertsons", "Trader Joe's", "Whole Foods", "Pack N Save) to find the cheapest replacement. I couldn't find Organic natural peanut butter for less than 20 cents/oz, so I got non-organic. The cheapest I found was (incredibly) Whole Foods' "365" brand http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/537 $3.99 for 36 oz (11 cents/oz). |

Thanks for this thread...
Any of the suggested brands come in glass jars? I've been sticking with Smuckers for the glass jars, but my kid prefers some of the PBs in plastic jars. |
