Entry-level employees and their iphones

I'm going to sound like a cranky old woman but I am so over all these entry-level people and their iphones at work. They walk around the halls with their heads buried in them, practically running into me. And I'm sorry but you are entry-level so there is absolutely no reason for you to bring them to meetings and repeatedly look at them. No one is emailing you at work anything that requires your immediate attention. Your senior level boss isn't even checking her blackberry in this meeting so it's obvious you're on facebook or twitter. Bah, damn kids!

Do they also need to get off your lawn?

Yes, when we were entry level, we left our Walkman at home!

better be nice to them, old one, or you'll be living in a state-assisted home

Do what I do. Carry a large glass of water and when they run into, spill it on the phone.

move over boomer dinosaurs you're next for extinction and good riddance. How’s that 500 page paper report you are reading coming along

Yes, you sound like a cranky old woman. An old lady who needs her own iphone.

Wow, you managed to take a legitimate topic (smartphone etiquette) and turn it into something smug and bitchy.

I'm 29 and I cannot stand when people bring their smart phones or ipads to meetings. I sit next to you, I see that you are playing angry birds or texting your spouse.

It was the same thing when the bluetooth headsets came out. Took folks a while to realize that you didn't need to wear the headset 24/7.

These same people, without the smart phone, would be just as likely to be passing notes or doodling during the meeting. It's just more obvious.

Why's everyone being so bitchy to the OP?

I'm about in the same demographic as the entry-level people OP is talking about and I didn't take offense. OP, I agree that it's annoying when people don't watch where they're heading because they're too busy looking at their phone.

So you don't think it's at all rude or self-important of people to be unable to be away from their cell phone for 30 minutes during a meeting? I think the technology is great, but I do not think it's necessary in a meeting where there is no need for it other than to make sure you don't miss a text.
