How much to give for a Bat Mitzvah

for a good friend's daughter. we're not going (had planned to and then could not/it's out of town). have not seen the bat Mitzvah girl very much in the last few years but knew her when she was little (and before they moved away). have been told to give money in multiples of $18. it's just me and my son. is $54 what i should give? someone at work told me $36 or $54...don't want to look cheap but don't want to give more than i should.

have not been to a bar or bat mitzvah since i was a kid.

Just give a gift. Nobody remembers who gave what amount. A gift is something nice

PP For a mat or bar Mitzvah money in multiples of 18 (for luck) is traditional.

I agree that this is a perfectly appropriate range and that no one remembers who gives what.
