I have seriously not been hungry since this pregnancy started. It has been a chore to eat (I am normally a food lover so this was very odd for me). All of a sudden yesterday I got REALLY hungry. Waffles for breakfast, apple for snack, halloween candy throughout the day, two pieces of pizza for lunch and a full chicken dinner. (I know, not the healthiest day, but I was just happy to be eating). Today is round 2 of this. Have I crossed the line from morning sickness to ravenous eating? Is this what it's going to be like for the rest of my pregnancy? If so, I will be lucky to get out under 300 lbs. |
I didn't have the 0-60mph experience from nausea to hunger. But, I did have hunger every 2-3 hours that was so intense I would trample small children and the elderly to get at something to eat from about 8-13 weeks. I found that it didn't matter if I ate like a truck driver or a mouse at a particular meal - the hunger would show up regardless. So, I tended to eat smaller portions at meals and tried to make good choices when I could. I kept packs of almonds, peanut butter crackers, etc. in my purse to ensure I always had something at the ready and ate fruit/protein combos when at home. Once I hit the second trimester, the extreme hunger subsided, so there is hope!!!!! |
oh yeah, i was STARVING my first trimester. |
I was starving my entire first pregnancy. It was awful. (So glad not to experience that this time around.) Try to graze all day so you don't really pack on the pounds. I gained more than I wanted (about 40 lb--but was happy it wasn't more!), and it was definitely harder on my body toward the end. |
I was STARVING my first trimester... to the point that I had snacks in my bedside table. I ate when I was hungry and never had nausea. And actually lost 10 pounds the 1st tri. Eat when you are hungry, just make sure you make good choices. |
It is so great to hear all of this. I'm 9 weeks and I have been fluctuating between hunger and nausea since week 6. The uncontrollable eating started even before then, at week 4. I have never been a food-motivated person, so this is a bizarre experience for me. Really, there are times when I'm at a restaurant and IF I DON'T GET WHAT I WANT IMMEDIATELY, I WILL BITE THE WAITER'S HEAD OFF. It is embarrassing, but I can't help it!! |
I was ravenous my entire pregnancy (and while I breastfed). I'd estimate that I took in about 3500 calories a day. I only gained 30 lbs. Just try to make healthy choices and you will be ok. |
with my first I experienced intense hunger, esp in 2nd tri. I did try to graze and eat relatively healthily and put on about 30 lbs. I also had a super active baby in the womb and was pretty active myself. This time I am having a hard time getting more than 1800 calories or so a day in--at 32 weeks I have put on 17 lbs, which seems fine, but I am measuring a bit small. Baby is much quieter and I am much less active too. |
Yeah, it's normal.
I gained a ton this way w pregnancy #1. Way more than necessary (45 lbs). I recommend exercising (get out and take a walk) instead of, oh, maybe the halloween candy. Don't diet, definitely eat more, but, you know, try to cut out some of the crap if you can. I don't mean to be moralistic -- just if I had it to do over again (which I did, with #2) this is what I'd suggest. ![]() And BTW, congratulations! You're in for a wild, awesome ride! ![]() |
yes, OP, totally normal. it's annoying because i'll eat a big meal, then am starving again half an hour later. eating has become a chore for me. still, there's the breastfeeding months for me to look forward to again with this baby. LOVE it. i can eat and eat and still lose weight. |
