First attempt at doing this, I got burned by one of those low-price coupons for an operation that doesn't do much work but spends a whole lot of time trying to upsell you on pricier services. But we really do need our ducts properly cleaned. Who should I call? How much is it going to cost when all is said and done?
Call R&B in Alexandria. It's going to be a whole lot more than you expect. Maybe $350 or so per duct. |
Atlantic Duct Cleaning. Excellent, highly rated, reasonably priced.
Try Home Air Services (based in Rockville) I think it would be $400-$600 for a small house if you also have a service contract with them for furnace and a/c tuneups, which we do ($300/year). I don't know what it would be if you don't have a service contract with them. They've been really straightforward--no finding fake problems or upselling.
This is really not needed as long as you keep changing the filter on your furnace on a regular basis.
OP again. The home is new to us, but was previously inhabited by chain smokers, pets galore and a bunch of people who weren't really up on timely routine maintenance. (The furnace filter, for instance, looked like they left one of their animals behind.) Going forward, we don't expect to do this again. But right now it's called for.
