aftercare & half dys

Am I right that there is no aftercare on half day?

which school? they are all different

None at ours. Typically my DH would take a half day or work from home and go pick up DC at 12:15 pm. This week we are screwed because he has a conference that was rescheduled from an earlier date, we'll take DC to backup care all day.

At our charter, there is free afterschool for half days.

The DCPS out-of-school time program (which operates in DCPS) does not offer care on record keeping days, neither on parent-teacher, professional development days, and of course holidays. But many schools or areas have private providers that fill those gaps, sometimes even for the littlest ones. If you're new to your school, it's worth asking a few seasoned parents about what's nearby or what they use as a backup. DPR used to program some of the full days off but I haven't seen anything recently and assume that it's been discontinued. If nothing is readily available, your best bet is to rotate with other parents from your class in taking on a couple of students at a time and filling in for one-another on those days.

our charter school offers aftercare on half-days and every school day. Just not on student holidays.

I know of several charters that get a lot of discussion on this board for which that is true.

What's your charter?

The Janney aftercare program (JED) offers care on half days and non-holiday days off (like parent conference days and teacher traiing days). If it is a full day off, they usually take the kids on a field trip.
