| We may be moving to Fairfax County sometime in the next year from an out of state Catholic school. A SIL recommended we have our kids take the WISC IV so that we could be in a position to move them into AAP, if they were accepted. Assuming they have the grades and teacher recs, etc., what WISC IV score would you expect would get kids into AAP (grades 3 and 6)? Maybe same question, not sure, but is there a low end score that you would not bother trying for AAP at all? TIA. |
| There is no specific score...but experience from the boards indicate that 128-130 is most likely admitted. |
| thanks. |
| I would add, to answer the second part of your question, a Full Scale IQ less than 110 would be "not worth applying", unless you have a GBRS of 16 (perfect). |
| If interested and you think it's appropriate, apply. If it doesn't work out, your kids will be fine. Don't be like the losers on this board who plot appeal after appeal, wasting resources and overcrowding the GT classrooms. |

If interested and you think it's appropriate, apply. If it doesn't work out after you've done a WISC and submitted the best possible package...then definitely think about what's best for your child. Level 3 services are fine.
However, don't listen to the selfish poster who thinks that adding one extra child to a class through appeal is someohow taking something away from their pwecious. These "SURRENDER DOROTHY" posts are ridiculous. It's a lie that kids who had to appeal don't deserve to be in the AAP program. It's also a lie that they are overcrowding the classes. We're talking 1 or 2 kids on average per class. Hardly a flood. I have yet to meet a child who appealed to get into AAP who didn't belong there. |
There is NO ONE in AAP who is wasting resources. There are NO plotters. There is NO overcrowding. The loser here is the person spreading these lies. |

It's a great program filled with wonderful kids and mostly normal parents.
The ones who go on those huge tangents on these forums are just bean counting flakes. Just ignore them and don't let them scare you away from doing what is best for your kids. Good luck! |
