shopping for rental car in chicago - why so expensive?

| I'm looking to rent a economy car for Thanksgiving holiday in Chicago. Even with Priceline I can only find cars for over $50/day. WTH! Anyone have a coupon or promo code they can share? Thanks, |

| If you are staying in the city I would do without a car. Very pricey to park and public transportation is decent. |

| It is so expensive because it is Thanksgiving, not because it is Chicago. I paid 60 total for two days last weekend from Hotwire. I agree, if you are staying in the city, you don't need a car. For 50 a day you can take cabs when you need them and the El the rest of the time. |

| If you are renting from the airport, that also adds to the price. Plus, it's a holiday. I agree with the PP, that if you're staying in the city, skip the car. |

| OP here. Thanks for the advice but our family of 4 will rotating between Skokie and Lake Forest. We need a car for this trip to visit other relatives that live in other burbs. I guess I'll just suck up the $58/day price. Ouch! |
