What should we see from our daughter's pre-k class? It seems to be nothing but worksheets.

Is that normal?

No, not normal. What type of a pre-k setting is she attending? Daycare Center? Home daycare? I would take the time to go an observe the happenings in the room.

My ds has creative letter learning (special mat with shapes they manipulate into letters), painting, art projects, gardening project, and a lot of playing to develop gross motor skills and general strength. To my knowledge, he has never done a worksheet.

No worksheets in my daughter's class either. Very hands on, creative, play based learning environment. I think Pre-K is much to early to be seeing a lot of worksheets.

No worksheets in my dd's classroom. They keep a journal where the kids draw pictures (either whatever they want or based on teacher's prompt) and then, depending on the kids' ability, either dictate to the teacher about the picture or write simple words themselves. Plus playing, math games, lots of art.

There are worksheets in my child's pre-K. It doesn't bother me. The worksheets assess skills he needs to know. Worksheets are however a small part of the curriculum. There's a lot of fun learning activities and lots of play too.

This sounds like DS's pre-k, but they also do the Weekly Reader, which is pretty much the same thing as a worksheet.
