Cherry blossoms at night among lanterns in the trees, not sure they do this anymore
Or cherry blossoms at all-too too crowded! FYI I got engaged there and it was amazing never been back

the arboretum is really nice. from the outside it looks dull, that's probably why you've never actually made it in. it took me 5 years of passing by before i finally stopped in. there's a fun koi pond and bonsai garden and old capitol columns and lots more. lovely! and free! |

I am the OP and I lived here a couple years, moved away, came back... never went to the arboretum until recently and I agree, it's awesome. We have to go back because there's really so much to see.
I have to admit I never realized that the monuments are so much better at night - just visualizing the Korean War memorial at night sends chills up my spine. It was something to be seen in the daytime, but we'll make a point to see it at night. Love the suggestions so far. |

i would eat at minibar and komi and restaurant eve.
shop at eastern market and get a toasted marshmallow shake from good stuff eatery. order a bucket of fried chicken from michel richard's central. eat at an ethiopian restaurant. get drinks at the gibson and px. see a concert on the national mall or capitol lawn. hike the billy goat trail along great falls. fourth of july on the mall. attend a mass at the basilica at CUA. finally make it around to h street. |
Me too After living in the city for almost 15 yrs, I've done just about everything else.
For the people saying Mt. Vernon- you really should to the Mt. Vernon Wine Festival. It's usually in May, but you need to buy tickets early- they sell out fast. You can picnic on the lawn or reserve a table. They open parts of the house that are usually closed off to the public and it's not as crowded. It's really a special event! |
