I've been TTC for about 6 cycles (i'm 31) and this cycle decided to join the gym ( I wanted to all year, but held off incase I got pregnant after which I don't want to work out). Anyway, since I haven't conceived yet, I'm now working out, and HARD. I am doing aerobics, body pump (weight) classes), and roughly hitting up the gym everyday for at least an hour to hour and a half. Is this safe to do, especially in the first few weeks after ovulation ( where I am right now- Day 8 after ovulation), and is it okay to be doing lots of core abdominal work? I figured as long as I'm not prengnat I want to look good and work out as hard as I can until I have to stop. BUT, is it okay to be working out HARD at this point in my cycle??? I hate putting my life on 'hold' esp. b/c that's what I've done all year in respect to many things b/c I thought, 'oh what if i'm pregnant this month' - it's such a bummer when you're not, and were so careful for no reason. But if this hinders my chances then obviously I'll cool off next cycle in the initial stages after O.....but honestly I can't believe how great I feel, and how much I'm loving exercising!!!
keep doing it -- you're fine! it's probably very relaxing in the long run and nothing wrong with being in shape! also, you're so right to not put your life on hold.
Just watch your body fat percentage. Too low and ovulation can be impaired.

Keep up the ab work even after you get pregnant. I did Pilates up until month 8 with DC#1 and rocked the hell out of that pregnancy. This time around, god help me, I'm a suffering fool and rarely if ever got to the gym. Exercise is terrific medicine. |
Thanks ladies! i feel absolutely terrific!! I used to work out religiously 3 years ago, and loooved it! I was starting to feel so ridiculously exhausted/tired/worn out that within a week of working out I haven't felt an ounce of exhaustion all day!!
It is great what you are doing. It helps take your mind off of TTC and thats when it will happen. I worked out before and during all of my pregnancies the doctor encouraged it since I had no issues with the pregnancies. I would keep it up even when you get pregnant. Plenty of trainers will give you adivice about modifications after your first trimester. The biggest thing is no to have too much of an excellerated heart rate.
Agree that it's fine. Though if it ends up taking you longer than, say, 18 months, you might want to look at Alice Domar's work. She recommends reducing the intensity of exercise for heavy exercisers having difficulty conceiving. I don't see any evidence that that's the case with you, though, so keep it up. Good for you.
Keep it up!!! I was working out super hard when I got a natural BFP earlier this year. I had stopped hard workouts when I started doing IVF cycles and went back to working out when I stopped cycling. I truly believe the physical and mental benefits of hard workouts contributed to my success.
PP thanks for sharing, that is really helpful information!
