There will be more to come I think. With the exception of the girl going to MIT, there isn't an athletic recruit in the bunch. Nice job Class of 2028!

Congrats to all those kids But this is why the NCS parent boosters who denigrate GDS and say NCS is a "better" school than GDS get to me. Maybe the Cathedral schools are great, but not in terms of college acceptances 2024. I think the old guard of DC doesn't like that what they see as a "super-liberal" school is having this kind of success.

I'm the poster with the NCS information. Not sure why you turned this into a competition between the schools. Nowhere did I say that NCS was better than any other school, just that they had good results this year. It's a small graduating class and it's an all-girls school (and girls have a higher bar (even at top schools) because more of them are applying).

It would be wonderful if we could all just celebrate the college successes of all the students instead of trying to use one year of data to argue that a particular school is better than another. So much more goes into a high school experience than college results. I actually think my DD would have liked GDS better than NCS and I wish we would have sent her there, but not because of the class of 2024 college acceptances.

PP Here. I said congrats to the NCS kids whose acceptances you mentioned. And it's not a competition but you must be new to DCUM if you have not seen the many many virulent posts from Cathedral School parents insisting that GDS is not "Big 3" and that St Albans/NCS are the best schools in the region(only to be followed by Sidwell parents declaring their supremacy...) So yes, I think it's fair to say I actually don't think NCS had great results. You are free to disagree. I also think it's untrue that privileged mostly white girls have a "higher bar." I think that may be something you want to tell yourself when other equally privileged kids from a liberal co-ed school have better results. The colleges do not view private school kids from GDS differently from private school kids from NCS. Your girls were not disadvantaged. This year another school simply had better overall results. Now I fully expect someone to chime in that all the GDS kids were somehow "hooked" which is completely untrue, but seems to be what people want to hear when they see these stats.

I’d be very curious to see what metric leads to your opinion that NCS has not had great results. I mean math is math. NCS’s results are amazing. Over half the class with be in T25 or top SLACS. All the ivies aren’t even posted yet, but even if they were…..

I'm an NCS parent and I don't think the results are all that great. It's clear that the second half of the class is going to pretty non-competitive entry schools.
And the results (for kids in the bottom half of the class especially) are quite a bit less impressive than those at STA this year (I have a kid in this STA class).

The NCS grading is not working (and don't jump on me for being a troll-this is my first post on this).

I absolutely agree with you about the grading. However, the girls who have not posted on IG are not all the bottom half of the class. There are some very good admissions out there (Yale loading).

surprised to not see more NCS girls to u chicago. aren't those usually ED admits?

I don’t think it’s as popular at NCS as it once was. There’s “buzz” that people don’t like it/aren’t happy there.

DP. GDS and Sidwell do not compute GPAs and do not do class ranking. It helps in their college admissions immensely.

I am curious about the STA results.

STA results are very good. I would say 60% into top 25 schools. Less than 5 boys into what one might think are non-competitive entry schools.
They're definitely better than the NCS admits. Some of this is due to the fact that boys are easier to place then girls in 2024. Some is the NCS grading.

I didn’t know there were that many NCS students going to “non-competitive” entry schools! That’s unfortunate.

What are the non-competitive schools? Everything is harder now!

Yes how you are presented on the transcript makes a huge difference. This is how Holton presents on transcript. GPA is weighted plus their scale is quite high. 91 is a 3.8.

To convert to a 4.0 scale
• GPA is weighted.
• Honors and Advanced courses in core academic subjects are weighted an additional 5 points when factored into the GPA.
91 3.8
90 3.7
89 3.6
88 3.5
87 3.4
86 3.3
85 3.2
84 3.1

I'm not going to I say as it's not fair to these kids but what is important is that it's a tiny number of kids who are not attending very competitive schools (and even these schools are great--Id be perfectly happy with them)

This class also has a very high average GPA for STA and few athletes (no top 20 kids are recruits) so it's not kids with athletics hooks. just smart kids with good grades.

NCS doesn't do class ranking. And according to the 6 college counselor my child talked to at the Georgetown Prep college fair, most say they compute a GPA when one isn't provided. A few said they recalculate everyones. It's done by a computer program and is fed to admissions. They can see the grades, they aren't stupid.

I think many will be surprised with NCS results. Many girls are just not posting. There are a lot of very competitive admits in the class.

Yes, some of her classmates were spewing the nonsense the PP stated about GPA on or off of transcripts. She had 6 conversations that all seemed to align. She took notes and shared them with us.

DP. GDS and Sidwell do not compute GPAs and do not do class ranking. It helps in their college admissions immensely.

My kids also attended the college fair from other school and did your kid really ask 6 counselors that question and then about GPA when one isn't provided?

Yes, some of her classmates were spewing the nonsense the PP stated about GPA on or off of transcripts. She had 6 conversations that all seemed to align. She took notes and shared them with us.

You sound very judgmental. Your daughter should not be gossiping about her classmates and making fun of questions they may have asked. They have a right to ask whatever they want. It is a bad reflection on her and you.

Harvard: 1
Princeton: 2
MIT: 1
Columbia: 1
Penn: 1
Cornell: 1

There will be more to come I think. With the exception of the girl going to MIT, there isn't an athletic recruit in the bunch. Nice job Class of 2028!

Congrats to all those kids But this is why the NCS parent boosters who denigrate GDS and say NCS is a "better" school than GDS get to me. Maybe the Cathedral schools are great, but not in terms of college acceptances 2024. I think the old guard of DC doesn't like that what they see as a "super-liberal" school is having this kind of success.

In a class of 125 at GDS
These are committed students (Just posted so far and more to come)
6 Harvard
3 Princeton
2 Dartmouth
2 cornell
1 U Penn
1 Brown
1 Yale (unposted to IG)
1 Columbia

NP here, what are you talking about? she is no way said her daughter was gossiping. her daughter asked questions, took notes and shared w her parent(s). she said the info PP gave was nonsense not the other girls and what you are saying is way overboard. get a grip.

WRT NCS, 39 girls have shared where they are going if you’re referring to the student run instagram account. Last I checked, this is not the whole class! My daughter is in US at NCS and while not a senior, she has friends who are. What a lot of you are posting is just shitty. These girls work so hard at the expense of their social lives, family time and often, their happiness/mental health. If parents are disappointed, that’s between them and their daughters (although I think that’s crappy too—you should know by senior year if your daughter doesn’t have the grades for xyz school and YOU should encourage them to apply to realistic places!) The pressure on these girls is tremendous and strangers on the internet stalking their college admissions is just nuts.
