This whole thread makes me laugh. I lived in Silicon Valley for five years. Yes, the weather is amazing year round. But I could not wait to get back to the mid Atlantic! I love having four seasons. I love the cities and energy and people and nature and beaches and bays and trees and activities and history and all of it. I'm glad I lived in California for a few years when I was younger. I know some people love it and can't imagine living anywhere else. I hope those people continue to love it! In the meantime, I'm sitting on my deck looking at the river, and can't imagine living anywhere else either. |
Completely agree. And the bleak. brown summers of SoCal can never compare to the lush verdant glory of east coast summers! I was so thrilled to move back! |
| The beach is never boring. If the water is warm then you don’t need lots of activities |
| DS and DH would stay in the ocean from 8 am to 5 pm if they didn’t need to eat. I enjoy reading the day away and going in ocean for a few 30 minute stints throughout the day. |

The main reason we enjoy East coast beaches is that we enjoy swimming and playing in the ocean.
The ocean changes every day. Some days it's rough, some days it looks like a lake, some days you don't go in past your knees. It even changes hour to hour. If you actually SWIM in the ocean, and enjoy it, you learn all about tides etc. It's interesting, but slower than wind surfing. My 10 year old and her cousins spend HOURS swimming and splashing and diving under waves. I join them for a bit, and then sit in a chair and watch them while I dry off. The smaller kids play in the sand and the surf, but keep their feet on the ground. |
NP. You're obnoxious, crazy, and stupid, and don't know it. That's way worse. |
I'm white and I love the sun. I use sunscreen and cover up as needed, but nothing feels better to me than a hot, sunny day spent outside. I'm not going to creep around inside all summer like a cave-dweller just to have nicer looking skin when I'm old. |
All well said. |

Sometimes yes. Sometimes I am in the mood for something secluded such as Corolla or Ocracoke, other times I enjoy the liveliness and fun of a crowded beach with lots of shops and a boardwalk. Luckily on the east coast we have plenty of both to choose from! |
I mean yeah, if you’re wealthy enough to have a view of the potomac from your house, I’m sure it’s nice. |
yeah, nothing like having to stay inside because the heat could literally kill you in DC ... |
being stuck under three umbrellas on a hot crowded beach for hours ... not my idea of fun! |
But pretty much everyone with a house here at least can have a lovely, lush, green yard with tall trees that's just gorgeous. You should see most of the yards in Los Angeles, for example, or most of the west coast. Just so dumpy and brown everywhere. The biggest tree being a palm tree |
Yup. My kids love to play with other kids at the beach. Other times we like to chill in peace. The beach can be great for different reasons at different times. |
