WaPo opinion piece from a CEO who wants people back in the office

Anonymous
My prediction is most companies will end up in hybrid. Depends on your office culture, but for most people, working from home is more efficient - I am way more productive at home without the constant interruptions and distractions of the office. (Open concept office which really sucks for productivity.) But I do miss the human connection aspect of going into the office, and I think C-suite types need the adulation of having people around to fawn over them in their corner office.

That six month gig ended and now full time elsewhere. My office on NYC open May 5. Dallas Just June and San Fran July.

WFH and control over hours doesn’t make you a contractor. Your company is probably running afoul of labor laws.

If the pandemic has shown us nothing it has shown us that some people thrive and prosper working and learning remotely and others don't. So rather than force everyone back into an office or classroom why don't we reorganize as a society to create work and learnings environments where both types of people can do their best and be most productive? I don't mind being in the office but I am actually more productive WFH as there are less distractions and 3-mins interruptions.

However, she is on point saying you can be a contractor if you don't want to come in.
She is essentially right and what companies want is responsible employees.
Why are rental cars all double the price from a year ago? Why are all Airbnbs rented, also for double or triple price now?
The reason people need to be in the office is accountability. That you are working.
Let's be honest, productivity at home is not even close to productivy in office.
She knows it, you know it, we all know it.
Enough BS people. Show up for work or expect to be fired, in not too far of a future.

Whut? Rental cars are double the price because all the rental car companies sold their inventory so now there are fewer cars on their lots. AirBnBs are rented because some people were living in close quarters and needed more space or shit maybe they just needed different scenery outside their window while they worked and could afford it. You, PP, suck and are part of the problem.

Nope I hate other people's kids, yours especially. I just think this is an opportunity to rethink how we have society set up since we now have hard evidence that many jobs can be done remotely and that some people are more productive WFH. Why force those more productive people back into the office for some stupid birthday cake culture nonsense?

Part of what problem?

Well, you just made me like you. I also don't like other people's kids. I mean I like a few, but not really. I mostly fake it.

My issue is I had some coworkers and staff very smart at certain things. SQL queries, PowerPoint, slack, service now, etc etc. We are all not good at everything.

Those few Rock stars really helped multiple people during the day.

Now home their “own” work gets done quicker and “they” are more productive

But 2-3 other people are way less productive. I literally struggled 16 hours on an IT issue my coworker could have got done in five minutes.

I prefer separation between home and work. Otherwise there is no end to the work. Going into office adds structure that works better for many people. Also, no office culture sucks for young people and folks new to the office.

Awww. You're so cute with your outdated dinosaur Big Boomer Energy.

She's right. I own a company and so much is slipping through the cracks. Communications that took 20 seconds of face to face conversations are now long email chains. Client calls/emails are taking way to long. Productivity is no where near what it was 2 months into closing to in-person work.

A memo is going out in June requiring in person attendance no later than September 1 or they will be fired.

This is a management problem.

NP. Yep. Also PP should switch to Slack and thread conversations. Email is not for conversation/discussions

Right. Stand in your truth.

She backtracked because productivity dropped to zero today. She was talking out her ass without understanding her company at all.

Yep, they said we aren't going to work in the office OR at home. B*tch.

Oh my God. Why didn't you call your coworker? Screen share? Basic problem solving?
