the above pictures of her in her younger years - that one at the top is so bizarre looking. The rest of them, yes, she looks beautiful, but that one in the short gold-is minidress? WTF is wrong with her head/face in that one?

Thats bullshit. Upper class Desi women do not work out but they starve themselves and stay out of the sun.
This is untrue. Upper class desi women are not thin.
Oh honey, I’m not talking about Desi women that live in the US who come from middle class or upper middle class background from India. I’m talking about the elite in India. The real rich that don’t need to come to the West for a better life. Those women watch what they eat and are stick thin and dressed to the nines.

This is really laughable.
The only stick thin (on purpose) desi women are the new breed of upcoming actresses (whom you may consider elite) that are taking their cue from Hollywood.-Ananya, Jahnvi, Shanaya et al. Probably the most fit person is Malaika Arora and she's got boobs (fake) and thighs and sticks to mostly yoga and pilates. Desi men and Desi women like boobs, hips, and thick thighs. It's been like this forever. Even my mother in law said I needed to eat more because I would be perfect with bigger boobs and my mom lamented the fact that I didn't inherit hers! I got the thighs though so that makes everyone happy!
Look at the ancient temple carvings, look at the OG bollywood actresses like Madhubala, Nargis, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh to the 80s and 90s actresses like Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Manisha Koirala, Kajol.. only in the last decade has Bollywood take a cue from Hollywood for thin women and it's definitely not the norm.
None are stick thin, all are soft and curvy. Plus, Indians enjoy food way too much, I mean we have such a wide variety of food and it's damn good. Fasting is very normal though, for religious reasons so that is the only way to balance out all the food that comes along with the various monthly festivals and parties.
So no, honey, regardless of whether or not you findd that the 'elite' in India like to be thin, it is clearly not the norm.
